Dietary supplements during pregnancy

For a healthy mom and baby, supplements during pregnancy are required for most females. Knowing which vitamins and minerals to take is the first step to a healthy diet plan.

  • Folic Acid – At least 400-500 micrograms of folic acid supplements during pregnancy should be taken daily. You need to start taking this vitamin before you become pregnant.
  • Vitamin D – Among vitamins to take during this period, Vitamin D is one of the most important. Take at least 10-15 micrograms of Vitamin D daily when you are breastfeeding.
  • Iron – Iron supplements help to prevent anaemia disease. Iron can be found in green apples, dried fruits, and peanuts. You need to eat fresh fruits (at least one apple) or take an iron supplement every day.
  • Calcium – Calcium supplements are very important for your unborn baby, because this nutrient helps teeth and bones develop. Tofu and green leafy veggies contain this supplement. Or alternatively you can use iron supplements available at any medical store.
  • Vitamin C – Oranges, apples, blackcurrant, and tomatoes contain vitamins. It is really important to absorb iron the natural way from food. Vitamin C is an anti-oxidant, so at least 500-1000 mg daily of vitamin C is required.
